Your massage or bodywork session will take place inside Kunkel Healthcare in a warm, comfortable, quiet treatment room. Soft music will be played to help you relax. Essential oils are often diffused to add to the serene environment. You will lie on a heated table especially designed for your comfort.
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed (with exception to chair massages). However, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped with a sheet and blanket. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.
A signature massage is often a baseline for clients. In a Renew Signature Massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax the exterior facia. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to address specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. A professional massage gel is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The gel also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the therapist any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, the table temperature adjusted, or anything else relevant to the session. Typically the therapist will remain quiet, unless you initiate conversation. Please keep table conversation to a low volume, as office space is shared with others.
That really varies depending on your individual needs, activity level, stress, and the goals you have for your body. For general relaxation, stress relief, and wellness, many of my clients find that a 3-4 week schedule helps them maintain the benefits and stay ahead of everyday tension. If you are dealing with chronic aches and pains, high levels of stress, or have a physically demanding job, you may benefit from more frequent sessions such as every 1-2 weeks. Others may simply schedule a massage "as needed" - when their body tells them it's time to slow down and reset. After your session, we can talk about how you felt during your session and determine a schedule that makes sense for you and your body. My goal IS NOT to have you come in as often as possible, but to help you feel your best and make massage a meaningful part of your overall self-care.
